WHO ARE WE
Chiari malformation & Syringomyelia initiative was founded in 2021 by Kazim Trust after joining hands with Bobby Jones CSF in partnership with Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Complex to create awareness and enhance knowledge for Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia in Pakistan, remaining a non-profit organization with the goal of creating awareness for Chiari malformation (CM), syringomyelia (SM) and related disorders.
I AM A DOCTOR
The Executive Committee of the Scientific Education & Advisory Board will solicit the assistance of other experts in the field to regularly update the basic CM/SM topics, including the leading clinical, radiological, therapeutic, and socioeconomic issues. In addition, the Committee will make a serious effort to ensure that controversial information is addressed in a fair and balanced manner.

I AM A PATIENT
Chiari Malformation & Syringomyelia Initiative is committed to providing current and accurate medical information to educate patients and their families. The Chiari Malformation & Syringomyelia Handbook is an excellent resource for patients and medical professionals. All educational material on this website is written and reviewed by our Scientific Education & Advisory Board Executive Committee before publication. This material is designed to help individuals understand the disorders and treatments in order to make knowledgeable decisions about their care. The information provided is designed to complement, not replace, the relationship between a patient and his or her physician and medical team.
CHIARI RELATED DISEASES
A Chiari malformation (CM) is a congenital (or rarely, acquired) abnormality in which the back compartment of the skull is too small for its contents, resulting in crowding of the neurological tissues. The lowest parts of the cerebellum, called the “cerebellar tonsils,” are pushed down through the opening at the bottom of the skull, impairing the normal circulation of cerebrospinal fluid into the spinal canal through an opening called the foramen magnum. The area of the brain often affected is responsible for controlling lots of things that you don’t have to think about like balance, breathing and swallowing, et cetera.
